A Baton Rouge woman died and another person was seriously injured after an SUV driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 caused a crash late Tuesday, Louisiana State Police said.
Troopers with Troop B responded just before 11 p.m. near milepost 210 westbound, where a GMC Yukon entered I-10 the wrong way from U.S. 51 in LaPlace. The vehicle traveled east in the westbound lanes and hit Patricia Saidu's Nissan Altima as she drove west. Both vehicles caught fire.
Saidu, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. The GMC driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. State police did not release that person's age or gender. Troopers have not yet confirmed whether seat belts were in use or if impairment played a role. Test results are pending.
