A man was shot and injured Wednesday evening in a road rage incident in Saugus, Massachusetts, according to police.

Officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to the reported shooting on Lincoln Avenue in Cliftondale Square.

The victim, a 32-year-old man from Melrose, was found shot in the leg, police said. He suffered a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury.

Police arrested Stephen Cooper, a 48-year-old Saugus man, who remained at the scene of the shooting.

Authorities did not specify charges against Cooper, a licensed firearm carrier, but noted that he is facing several gun charges.

"His license to carry is pending suspension by the licensing authority," a Saugus police spokesperson said in a statement.
