MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —
Health officials in Marshalltown are concerned about the location of this weekend's Oktemberfest set to take place in the epicenter of a Legionella outbreak.
Some of the 12 businesses with cooling towers in the area have not completed an offline cleaning, which involves turning off systems that regulate building temperatures to disinfect. Public health director Sydney Grewell told county supervisors cooling towers remain the likely suspected source of the illness-causing bacteria.
"We have yet to have any of those business centers complete this step," Grewell said. "Some of them have been dragging their feet and taking their time, which is not what we wanted to see," she added.
