A Gretna Police Department officer who was arrested and accused of drunk driving in a police cruiser has been fired.

Gretna Det. Brittany Pujol was arrested in New Orleans in August. Gretna police say after an investigation, it was revealed that she violated numerous policies, which led to her termination. Advertisement

Pujol was with the police department for seven years.

The NOPD is handling her arrest and case.

"Once we were informed about that, we started the internal process," said Deputy Chief Jason DiMarco at the time of Pujol's arrest.

According to Sunny Wall with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, no one, especially an officer, should be behind the wheel impaired, and the situation could have been worse.
