Tension flared outside the Barasat court complex in North 24-Parganas on Tuesday afternoon, after a clash broke out between a group of lawyers and police, leaving a policeman and several journalists injured. The incident occurred when two men, accused of assaulting lawyers earlier this week, were brought to court. A section of lawyers had been staging protests outside the premises since morning, demanding strict action. When the accused were produced in court, the demonstration turned unruly. Police said the situation escalated when officers attempted to disperse the protesting lawyers. The confrontation quickly spiralled into pushing and shoving, which led to a scuffle.
