Gov. Mike Braun deserves credit for making wage growth a centerpiece of his economic agenda. It’s a priority that, as one policy expert noted, Hoosiers have not heard emphasized by other governors.

Braun’s new Power Up Indiana initiative, announced last Wednesday and overseen by the Department of Workforce Development, takes an important step by requiring state-supported training programs to deliver at least a 25% pay increase. It’s a meaningful standard and, if met, a real win for workers.

According to the program literature, in Region 1, which includes Allen County, the average salary is $58,931, or $28.33 an hour, while the starting salary is $47,145, or $22.67 an hour.
