JACKSONVILLE, Ark. – The Children’s Protection Center, which serves abused children and families across Pulaski County, is bracing for a $700,000 loss in grant funding by the end of the year—forcing leaders to halt expansion plans and redirect focus to keeping the doors open.
The nonprofit operates a main location in Little Rock and a second site in Jacksonville, both providing forensic interviews, medical exams, therapy referrals, and family support for children in abuse investigations.
Last year, the CPC served more than 1,500 kids, nearly 500 of them from north of the Arkansas River.
Executive Director Jennifer Long said the anticipated funding shortfall stems from changes to grants overseen by the Department of Human Services and the federal Victims of Crime Act Fund.
