LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Two separate fires at vacant houses in Louisville early Wednesday have raised concerns among neighbors.

Jerry Girton says he woke to sirens outside a home on Dixie Highway in the California neighborhood.

“When I woke up, I heard fire trucks. I came out. They was right there at that house,” he said.

The Louisville Fire Department said the blaze came from the second floor of the vacant building and was brought under control in just under 20 minutes.

Hours earlier, crews responded to another vacant home on Rowan Street in the Portland neighborhood. Twenty-eight firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The American Red Cross was called to assist three adults at the scene.
