Veteran superstar Amitabh Bachchan ‘s iconic family surname ‘Bachchan’ originated from a pen name adopted by his father, Hindi poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He deliberately rejected his real surname, ‘Srivastava’, and started using Bachchan to protest the caste system. In a recent interview, Amitabh’s younger brother, Ajitabh Bachchan, spoke about their surname’s origin. He also revealed that the actor was almost named ‘ Inquilab ‘ as he was born during the Independence struggle.
During a chat with RJ Sachin, he shared that their father Harivansh Rai belonged to the ‘ Kayastha ‘ community. The name ‘Bachchan’ was given by his wife, Teji Bachchan. “She would call him, ‘ Bachchanwa kidhar hai ?’ He liked that and began using it as his writing name,” Ajitabh share
