Motorists on a well-used road in Mexico were met with a grisly scene — with six decapitated heads being lined up on the thoroughfare.
Shocked drivers on the road linking the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala in the centre of the country made the discovery, which is being blamed on a gang feud.
All the heads were men, with another severed head and body being found in the city of Colima.
A prosecutor said that extreme violence on such a level was rare in Puebla and Tlaxcala, though a gang war had been bubbling away.
Local media reported that a pamphlet was found near one of the severed heads, saying it was a settling of scores between gangs that rob fuel.
Violence such as a decapitation is more common in Mexico’s north and along the Pacific coast where drug cartels operate.
