PHOENIX — A prominent pornography website will block access to Arizona users starting Friday as the state's new age-verification law takes effect, making Arizona the 25th state to enact such restrictions.
The law, sponsored by Republican State Rep. Nick Kupper of Surprise, requires websites where more than one-third of content is pornographic to verify that users are 18 or older before granting access. Parents are also given the right to sue violators, with potential fines reaching up to $250,000.
"It just really stood out as something that was a big positive to try to give parents one more tool to help protect their children," said Kupper, a father of four who modeled the legislation after a similar Texas law passed in 2023.
