NEW DELHI: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk in 2024 warned that the lack of democratic institutions and high unemployment in Ladakh could create a volatile situation in the sensitive border region. Speaking at a press conference in Kullu in 2024 while leading a foot march to Delhi with around 100 volunteers, Wangchuk referred said the people of Ladakh were demanding a greater role in governance. “We are thankful that Ladakh was made a Union Territory.
