MUNISING — Escanaba’s Avah Ackerly continued her solid freshman cross country season here Tuesday, placing fifth in the El Harger Memorial Invitational.

Ackerly covered the 3.1-mile course at the Pictured Rocks Golf Course in 21:16 on this cloudy and seasonably-cool afternoon.

“My goal was to finish in the top five,” she said. “We had nice weather for running and I was hoping to push it. It was a little humid, but perfect temperatures. I felt good today. This was good practice for the (Upper Peninsula Division 1) Finals. This gives me a good idea of what I’m up against.”

Houghton’s girls were overall winners with 41 points. They were followed by Sault Ste. Marie 50, Negaunee 70 and Rudyard 134. The Rapid River girls were the D-3 champions at 194.
