A section of the M60 has closed this morning after a "serious" crash.

Footage shows M60 traffic held on the clockwise carriage between junctions eight at Carrington and nine at Urmston. National Highways revealed the morning closure was due to a " serious collision ".

Vehicles are being diverted locally but heavy traffic is building on the approach to the M60 due to the rush out closure. 07:50 KEY EVENT

Diversion route for drivers

A diversion route has been shared by National Highways for people looking to travel through the closed clockwise section of the M60.

The route is: Exit at J6 and use A6144, A56 at J7 follow signs for Carrington (A6144) then follow the B5158 through Urmston to rejoin the M60 at J9.

Drivers were warned to allow extra journey time this morning. 07:46
