FAIRHAVEN — When you visit Blazing Saddles Pony Parties & Petting Zoo, it quickly becomes clear that this isn’t just a typical petting zoo but a thriving sanctuary where the needs of both animals and people are placed at the heart of every decision.
Founded by Keri Wilson and her family, alongside one of her daughters Alexis Furtado, the education director, the animal sanctuary and mobile education center has grown significantly since first opening in Dartmouth in 2015 to encompass 20 acres filled with rescued animals, educational programs and community-focused events at 263 Mill Road in Fairhaven.
“We started as self-funding my love for animals with pony parties,” Wilson said. “But we realized even the animals sent out for events often didn’t have a good home in the off-season."
