Security forces patrolled the streets near Shyamkanu Mahanta’s residence in Geetanagar on September 25 as authorities intensified efforts to locate the organiser of the Northeast India Festival. Mahanta is under investigation following the death of singer Zubeen Garg during a yacht trip in Singapore.

The Assam government has banned Mahanta and his associated organisations from hosting any events in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government will also withhold financial grants, advertisements, and sponsorships from any events linked to him, directly or indirectly.

Authorities are working to arrest Mahanta as part of the ongoing investigation, which has already triggered multiple FIRs across Assam.
