Police in Rumphi District have arrested three suspects for allegedly being found in possession of raw ivory at Bongololo Village.
District Police Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Noel Kamchenga, identified the suspects as Christopher Mkandawire (59), Abel Phiri (32), and Chisomo Mkandawire (28).
According to Kamchenga, police received a tip-off that Christopher Mkandawire was keeping raw ivory at his house and was secretly offering it for sale.
Following investigations, detectives arrested the three suspects and seized ivory weighing 23.20 kilogrammes.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of being found in possession of specimens of listed species, contrary to wildlife protection laws.
