Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left one man injured in the city’s South Ward Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said the incident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue, where officers responded to reports of shots fired.

When units arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

The victim was transported to University Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

A weapon was recovered and a possible suspect was reportedly detained at the scene, though officials have not released details on a motive.

The investigation remains active and ongoing as Newark Police continue to handle the case.
