On a day when BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced that Shreyas Iyer has sought a six-month break from red-ball cricket citing fitness issues, the top-order batter was also appointed captain of an India A team for an upcoming one-day series with Australia A.
The development sparked speculation over the potential elevation of Iyer as India ODI captain. So when the question was posed to chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, he said the India A appointment is a chance for the 30-year-old to further prove his leadership credentials.
