Birmingham City Council has launched a new myth-busting project in a bid to help residents tell the difference between truth and lies amid a rising tide of hateful rhetoric.

The Truth Matters campaign has taken shape because of concerns about false claims circulating online about migration, those seeking asylum and other potentially divisive issues.

The aim is to ensure falsehoods aren't allowed to gain traction.

The project kickstarted with a 'truth' tweet about a hotel in Dudley , housing homeless families including some from Birmingham , which was mistakenly targeted by anti-asylum seeker protestors this month.
