Two people were found dead days after a vehicle crashed into a canal off Interstate 5 near Tracy, according to the California Highway Patrol. One passenger survived.
On Wednesday, the two people killed were identified as 52-year-old William J. Doyle and 48-year-old Roland M. Penamante.
Officials said that around 8 a.m. on Sept. 19, a caller reported that a woman was trying to wave down traffic on I-5 near Highway 132. Officers responded and spoke with the woman, who said she was the passenger in a vehicle that had crashed and entered the water. She said two other people had been in the vehicle.
CHP said tire tracks and debris leading to the edge of the Delta Mendota canal also backed up her story.
