Expectations were blown out of the water after a community get-together on Sunday against a ferry terminal proposed on the Matilda Bay foreshore drew hundreds of people.

Nedlands MLA Jonathan Huston, who helped create the event, said the turnout was “overwhelming”.

“We only had about two-and-a-half weeks to organise the event, so we were thinking maybe 60 to 70 people would rock up,” he said.

Mr Huston said about 350 people from across Perth showed up.

“Half the people there weren’t from Nedlands. There were people there from Quinns Rocks , from East Fremantle , families from all over Perth,” he said.

“This is not a NIMBY group of people. It’s people from all over Perth who use Matilda Bay.”
