A Brazilian is among a group of people who became Australian citizens in the Town of East Fremantle this month.

Fernanda Okamoto moved from Sao Paulo in Brazil to Perth about a decade ago.

Ms Okamoto said becoming a citizen represented a sense of belonging, a deeper integration into the community and embracing the responsibilities and values of Australia.

“It is an immensely emotional and rewarding experience,” she said.

“After more than a decade, it is incredibly special to finally make it official. I feel deeply proud and grateful for the opportunity to call Australia my permanent home.”

She said she moved to explore new cultures and experiences abroad.

“I came to Perth to discover new possibilities and enrich my life experiences,” she said.
