Three women were burned, one critically injured, while attempting to prepare food at a banquet table Wednesday night during a Navy Pier rooftop event.

Police and fire officials responded at 8:30 p.m.to a call of a fire at Offshore Rooftop, 1000 E. Grand Ave., where a global investment management firm was holding an event, Chicago police said.

Fire officials said the incident happened when a substance, possibly alcohol, came into contact with a Sterno-type burner, causing a “flashover,” and burning three women, including a 25-year-old woman who suffered burns all over her body and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. According to a source, s’mores were being prepared when the fire happened.
