The Fremantle Rowing Club has broken a 24-year streak at this month’s WA State Rowing Championships.

It wrested the men’s champion open VIII title from the Swan River Rowing Club, which had held it for 24 years .

It was also the first time in 59 years the Fremantle club won the men’s event.

Club president Colin Armstrong said the win was a massive achievement for the club and the result of many hours of hard work in the gym and on water.

“This race was a massive win for our open men’s team and club. We are elated and overwhelmed,” he said.

“Our men’s open VIII rowed undefeated throughout the season, so this win tops off an impressive season for the men and all our rowers, who achieved fantastic results in trying weather conditions.”
