MADISON (WKOW) — Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) will pause abortion services starting Oct. 1 due to a new federal law that the organization says targets them.

Spokesperson Stephanie Miller from PPWI explained the pause is a result of a federal budget bill passed under President Donald Trump's administration. The bill prevents abortion providers from receiving Medicaid payments for a year.

"Despite this deeply unfair and unjust policy, our priority is doing everything we can to minimize disruption for our patients," Miller told 27 News.

The organization is working to see as many patients as possible before the law takes effect. They are coordinating with other providers to ensure timely and compassionate care for those affected, according to Miller.
