BAXTERVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed early on Thursday morning in the Baxterville community of Lamar County.

According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel, 42-year-old Allen Dennis shot and killed his 63-year-old father a little after 2:00 a.m. on Dilly Niller Road.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old Rex Allen Dennis by Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne. His time of death was declared at 2:30 a.m.

The weapon was found at the scene. Allen Dennis was taken into custody at the scene.

Allen Dennis was arrested on Thursday morning and charged with murder, possession of a weapon by a felon, and parole violation. Allen Dennis is waiting for his initial appearance in justice court.
