A water main break on Thursday in Novi has prompted several nearby schools to close.

Novi city officials said at about 7:20 a.m. that the Oakland County community was experiencing a loss in water pressure due to a main break on 14 Mile Road west of Grand River Avenue.

Less than an hour later, the city said crews were working to fix the problem and that the break was in a 42-inch transmission main owned and operated by Great Lakes Water Authority. Officials said they expected the repairs to take several hours before service was restored.

They added that once repairs were completed, customers affected by the break would be under a boil water advisory for at least a couple of days.
