Mel Owens had to narrow down his dating pool during the season 2 premiere of “The Golden Bachelor.”

The Wednesday, Sept. 24, episode kicked off with Mel meeting all the women one by one. Several of them called him out for saying he planned on “cutting” women that are “60 or over” during a June appearance on the “MGoBlue Podcasts With Jon Jansen.”

Terri Alani even brought along a puppet to playfully slap Mel in the face on behalf of “all women over 60.” Mel took the criticism in stride. He apologized to several of the women personally and later addressed his controversial comments while speaking to the whole group.

“I hope you forgive me and let me earn it back,” he said. “Age is just really a number, and spirit has no age.”
