KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

One person is dead after a hit-and-run Thursday night on Independence Avenue.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the area of Independence Avenue and Hardesty Avenue around 9 p.m. on reports of a fatal crash. Advertisement

Police learned that a bicyclist had been traveling east on Independence when they entered the intersection and switched lanes, entering a westbound lane.

A pickup truck traveling west on Independence struck the bicyclist head-on, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck reportedly fled in an unknown direction.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
