Syracuse University must protect faculty who criticize Charlie Kirk (Your Letters)

Recently, two Syracuse University professors wrote social media posts that were harshly critical of Charlie Kirk . Those posts were then quoted in the New York Post and elsewhere, resulting in hostility and death threats ( “Prof faults Syracuse University for ‘intentionally’ misleading statement on Charlie Kirk posts,” Sept. 18, 2025).

The university’s public comments on the matter have been ambiguous. A statement released last week read, “We are aware of the social media activity, and two faculty members are currently on leave.” This statement implies that the professors were placed on leave in response to the social media activity, but at least one was on medical leave all along.
