Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda demanded the state government pay sufficient wages to Anganwadi workers and helpers as directed by the Gujarat High Court in its recent order, highlighting the issue of malnutrition in the state.

Earlier, the HC had directed the state government that the Anganwadi workers and helpers be paid monthly wages of Rs 24,800 and Rs 20,300 respectively.

Chavda also demanded that new Anganwadi centres be opened in proportion to the population of the state.

Addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad , Chavda along with former minister and senior Congress leader Jay Narayan Vyas criticised the BJP -led Gujarat government for allegedly failing in eliminating malnutrition in the state despite the fact that it is in power for the past three decades.
