Warning the state government of an agitation, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday demanded that farmers be given a complete loan waiver before Diwali, failing which, he said, his party would take to the streets alongside cultivators.
“If the state fails to announce a comprehensive loan waiver by Diwali, Shiv Sena will take to the streets, shoulder to shoulder with the farmers,” Thackeray warned as he toured flood-ravaged districts of Marathwada on Thursday.
Thackeray accused the Devendra Fadnavis -led government of offering “meagre and insulting” relief. “The government is giving barely Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000 per hectare. Even clearing the fields would costs double that amount. Is this help or an insult?” he said at a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
