FARRELL, Pa. - A New Castle man has been charged in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a man described as a "beloved coach" at a bar in Farrell over the weekend.

According to a criminal complaint, 34-year-old Michael Cox is charged with criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, risking catastrophe and carrying a firearm without a license.

Cox is charged in connection with a deadly shooting at Yank's Place on Idaho Street in Farrell during the early-morning hours of Sunday, September 21. The shooting claimed the life of 45-year-old Brandon Smith.

PSP was called to investigate the scene, where troopers found blood on the sidewalk, as well as numerous shell casings at the scene, as well as further down the street from the bar.
