Hampton Roads is expected to see scattered showers and thunderstorms starting Thursday afternoon while tropical weather moves nearer.

The majority of South Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina are expected to have between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain through 8 a.m. Sunday, and the remaining portion of the region will have between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. The peak rainfall potential for Hampton Roads is about 60% by 8 p.m. Friday night.

South Hampton Roads will have a marginal risk of isolated flash floods through Sunday. The risk extends to all of eastern and northern Virginia, Maryland and eastern North Carolina for Saturday.

The highest risk for severe storms Friday will be more inland.
