BELLEVUE, Ky. —

Police in northern Kentucky have provided an update after human remains were found behind a grocery store in Bellevue Wednesday.

According to a statement from Bellevue Chief of Police Jon McClain, investigators believe the remains were in their location for "several months, if not longer." Advertisement

Police were called to the scene, between the Kroger on Donnermeyer Drive and Retreat Street, around 6 p.m. Wednesday. WLWT's crews saw officers searching along the wooded area where the human remains were discovered. The Campbell County Crime Scene Team was also called to the scene.

A woman who spoke with WLWT says she and her friends found the body after smelling something "really bad" for two or three weeks.
