A former deputy with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office who pled guilty in May to sexually abusing an inmate has learned his fate.

According to a press release, 53-year-old Damon Perry was sentenced to 9.3 years in prison on two counts of sexual abuse of a detainee and two counts of sexual abuse.

Perry admitted to engaging in a sexual act with a female inmate under federal detention in the Mahoning County Jail on two separate dates in November of 2023.

According to the release, both of these acts were performed without the inmate's consent.

"Mr. Perry's abusive and appalling actions against a detainee were a violation of her basic human rights. Using his power of authority to deliberately take advantage of a woman who he was charged with supervising is dishonorable and despicable,"
