Speed cameras in Waterloo Region and across the province will soon be shut off after Premier Doug Ford said he is legislating to have them removed.
Ford said Thursday in Vaughan legislation will be introduced next month to ban speed cameras across the province, calling them a “cash grab,” and implementing a fund for other traffic calming methods, including speed bumps, roundabouts and large flashing signs, he said will slow traffic better than a retroactive measure.
There will be an evaluation to discover how many cities want the province’s prescribed traffic calming efforts and what areas of cities to put them. The province will offer support, the premier said. He did not say what the cost would be.
