The unsettling “Wayward,” a new limited series created by and starring Mae Martin, has just dropped on Netflix and we have a lot of questions.

The eight episodes of “Wayward” focus on the small New England town of Tall Pines and a mysterious, cult-like institute called Tall Pines Academy.

The Academy isn’t really a school — it’s a behavior modifying institute run by the charismatic Evelyn (Toni Collette) where wayward teens are sent for correction. But it’s also about new local cop Alex (Martin, whose pronouns are they/them) and his pregnant wife Laura (Sarah Gadon), and how they discover and reveal the secrets of the Academy and the town itself.
