One person’s junk mail may be another’s treasure, but if you’re tired of credit card offers piling up in your mailbox, there is an easy way to stop them.

Credit card companies use information from your credit report to “prescreen” or “preapprove” people. The information they use comes from credit bureaus.

The three major credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – have a website and phone number to help you opt out of these credit card offers.

Here's what to do:

Go to OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-5-OPTOUT

Give your name, address, social security number, and date of birth and you’ll stop receiving credit card offers for 5 years.

You can make the change permanent by signing a form and mailing it in.
