A police force this evening released an urgent statement after its 101 phone line was struck by an outage and its 999 calls were experiencing delays. ‌

Wiltshire Police revealed the problem was triggered by "technical difficulties" within their control room. ‌

The force confirmed that those dialling 999 to report an emergency would have their calls responded to but with "a slight delay", however the 101 telephone service is not currently operational. ‌
