COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) -- Former South Carolina banker Russell Laffitte pleaded guilty to several state financial charges Thursday in a Richland County courtroom.
Laffitte agreed to plead guilty to charges including criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, and computer crimes in exchange for an eight-year prison sentence. He is expected to receive credit for the three years he has already served and serve the remaining five years on the state charges consecutively with his federal sentence.
State prosecutors said the victims were notified of Thursday's plea deal and agreed on the terms.
It marked the latest development in a years-long saga involving Laffitte and former lawyer and convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh.
