On Sept. 25, the Maskwacis RCMP detachment announced they had identified several firearms that were illegally purchased as part of an ongoing, focused investigation.

The investigation has been aimed at identifying the sources of sources of recovered firearms from various crime scenes in Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin.

As a result, the RCMP has now charged 38-year-old Maskwacis resident Eaglechild Smallboy with four counts of firearms trafficking and four counts of transferring without authority.

Smallboy was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released with his next court date set for Oct. 21, 2025 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
