A gas leak in an existing construction area led to the closure of South Shields Street between Rocky Mountain Way and Drake Road on Sept. 25, the city said in a news release.
Crews and emergency services were on the scene and working to ensure safe repairs, according to the news release from city spokesperson Brian Nunnery. The leak was discovered about 1 p.m. Sept. 25, and the closure was implemented at 2:15 p.m.
The city had previously said in a post on its official X account that motorists were experiencing significant traffic delays on South Shields Street between Drake and Horsetooth roads because of a gas leak beneath the road. The leak was caused by a third-party doing utility work in the area, according to the 1:30 p.m. post.
Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area while r
