It was a beautiful day to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day, and about 1,000 people, mostly students, gathered outside North Bay’s City Hall to take in the festivities.
This year also marked the 50th Anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag, which was co-created by North Bay’s own Michel Dupuis, whose family attended today’s celebration.
The flag was hoisted skyward before the crowd, and soon, the city plans to install another flagpole to permanently fly the Franco-Ontarian flag. The Franco-Ontarian flag became an official symbol of the province of Ontario in 2001 with the passage of the Franco-Ontarian Emblem Act.
