Sean 'Diddy' Combs has returned to court for a hearing over his bid to set aside a jury's verdict finding the hip-hop mogul guilty on prostitution charges. As he entered US District Judge Arun Subramanian's courtroom in Manhattan, the rap mogul smiled, hugged his lawyers, and waved at his family seated in the audience, according to an ABC report. At the hearing, prosecutors and defence lawyers were each given 20 minutes to present their arguments. Lawyers for Combs argued that he should have his conviction overturned because the federal law that prohibits transportation for the purposes of prostitution should "only be applied to pimping" and Combs "was only an alleged consumer". Federal prosecutors told Subramanian the conviction deserved to be upheld in part because, even as a voyeur, Combs was violent. Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on 3 October, should Judge Subramanian uphold his conviction. He faces up to 20 years in prison if the 2 July conviction stands, although in a court filing earlier this week, his lawyers suggested a 14-month sentence. That would see him released soon, as he would be credited for the time he has already spent in jail. The judge did not immediately rule on the motion to acquit Combs or grant a retrial, but indicated the parties would have his decision soon.
