JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Bold New City of the South is turning a little Emerald.
City leaders broke ground on the Hogan Street link to the Emerald Trail Thursday.
The .9 mile stretch will run along Hogan Street from Riverfront Plaza to Springfield.
"It's easy on the joints," said Nick Evans while cycling on Hogan Street. "It's good for me. Try to keep myself in shape, and it gets me a break from the office."
Evans takes a daily 15-20 mile bike ride from downtown Jacksonville to Baymeadows, and he does it all on his lunch break.
The final stretch of that runs up Hogan Street, which will soon get an upgrade with cyclists in mind.
"If I try it out and it looks like a good time, I might do it more often," said Evans. "Stay away from the cars."
