VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - S.L. Mason Elementary students and staff are safe following a school lockdown that was prompted after a man was found dead on the school’s campus, according to the Lowndes County Coroner Austin Fiveash.

According to Fiveash, the coroner’s office was called out to a man who was found dead on the school’s campus at around 3:30 p.m.. The man was reportedly injured in an incident off campus and was later pronounced dead.

In a social media post just before 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, the school district said the school campus was “an active crime scene” and locked down “out of an abundance of caution.” The school is no longer under lockdown as of Thursday evening.
