ARIMO — An armed man who fired shots at the town's mayor and a sheriff's deputy remained barricaded in his home Thursday afternoon as SWAT officers worked to end a standoff, authorities said.

The gunman opened fire around 11 a.m. when Mayor Lonnie Gunter and a Bannock County deputy arrived at his residence to discuss an ordinance issue. At least one bullet struck the mayor's vehicle, though no one was injured.
