Langley swimmer Sam Burwell medalled at the 2025 Canadian National Surf Lifesaving Championships held at Bayswater Beach, NS.
Burwell earned silver in the Surf Race ( ocean swimming ), fifth in the Prone Paddle Board race, sixth in the Beach Sprint and eighth in Beach Flags, while teammate Martyna Zukowska came fourth in the Beach Sprint, fourth in Beach Flags, ninth in the 2k Beach Run and 12th in the Prone Paddle Board race.
“Lifesaving sport is huge for competition and learning,” said Burwell, a Walnut Grove Secondary School graduate, “because not only are we bringing younger generations to the water and teaching them to be proficient, but also safe. And when we learn these skills as athletes, we also hope to be role models and that means more and more people are safe because of it!”
